Apple To Unveil Gold Version Of iPhone 5S Next Month [PHOTOS]

After several developing stories over the weekend teased the announcement of a gold-colored iPhone 5s, it has been confirmed that the color scheme will be unveiled in a special launch event next month.

Wall Street Journal's AllThingsD blog got the scoop on the confirmation after sources told them that during Apple's launch event on September 10, the gold or champagne-colored iPhone will make its debut.

From AllThingsD:

Sources in position to know tell AllThingsD that Apple, after years of offering the iPhone in either black and white, will soon offer it in a gold tone as well. iMore was first to break the news last Friday, its story corroborated in short order by TechCrunch on Sunday and as well as 9to5Mac.

The new color option was described to AllThingsD as an “elegant” gold tone. “Think champagne, not ingot,” a source said, confirming what not seems to be some spot-on speculation from iMore last week.

Apple has been gearing up for the release of its latest generation of iPhones, with the long-rumored budget class 5C and the flagship 5S update. However, news of the color started brewing and caused a frenzy across blog sites and social media. CNet speculates that the phones will be in short supply, and will be a target of thieves looking to nab the exclusive color.

The publication also noted that this isn't the first time Apple has applied gold to its products, but stated this is a bold step for the traditionally plain black and white colors of the iPhone.

Apple Introduces New iPhone 5S & 5C Editions [PHOTOS]

Today (September 10), leading technology giant Apple unveiled its latest versions of the popular iPhone from their base of operations in Cupertino, Calif. The beefed-up 5S and budget class 5C are the new darlings of the smartphone block.

As teased for the past few weeks, the 5S will come in a brand new color. The champagne and gold-toned iPhone 5S – referred to by the company as its “gold standard” – will join a white and slightly altered black version of the 5S. What will set this phone apart from its predecessor is a 64-bit A7 chip, which Wired writes is 40 times faster than the original version of the iPhone.

The 5S will also feature a snappy 4-inch Retina display that clocks in at 1136 x 640 pixel resolution. The iPhone's camera gets a boost as well with a dual-led flash, a bigger sensor, and clocking in at 8 megapixels. For tech-heads, a new feature for the 5S – what Apple calls the Touch ID – will read fingerprints of the phone's main user by pressing the Home key thus adding a new layer of security.

The 5S will sell for $199 for a 16GB model, $299 for the 32GB version, and $399 for the top-end 64GB version and will be released September 20 in the States and eight other countries before shipping worldwide.

The cheaper 5C has been seen as Apple's attempt to challenge Samsung's dominance in the mid-level smartphone market considering iPhones remain as one of the costliest devices around. The 5C will work on a A6 chip and a lower pixel resolution but has the same 4-inch display and camera as the 5S.

The phone stands out in other unique ways such as having a front-facing camera and will come in five colors: lime green, white, yellow, red and light blue. The 5C will cost $99 for a 16 GB model, and $199 for a 32 GB version, along with a two-year wireless contract. Pre-orders for the 5C will begin on September 13.

Also announced was the release date for Apple's latest operating system, iOS7. Users can expect the update on September 18.

The NYPD nabbed a pair of teen robbers Wednesday in the Fort Greene Park section of Brooklyn after they used a phone they stole from a man to take a selfie pic. Cops also suspect that the two have been responsible for a series of muggings in the area, and they now face several counts of robbery.

DNAInfo reported on the arrest of 19-year-old Tyquan Solomon and 16-year-old Terrance Sistrunk of the Walt Whitman Houses in Brooklyn. According to the police report, Solomon and Sistrunk encountered a man in the early morning hours of February 2, and brandished a Black BB gun. The teens stole an iPhone and $205 in cash from the 22-year-old victim.

Later that day, the victim used an iPhone cloud-based service and discovered several pictures of the robbers posing in selfie photos and holding a wad of cash. The NYPD were able to use the photos to identify the muggers, and then later arrested and charged them each with five counts of robbery.

Police say that the muggers may be connected to the crimes occurring in the area over the last two months. They are asking the public's help in tying past crimes to the robbers by calling into the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.

Apple fans are already anticipating purchasing the upcoming iPhone 6, which will be unveiled at an event next month. Also at that same event, the tech giant is jumping into the smartwatch fray with a first look at its iWatch product as well.

Earlier in the month, reputable outlets stated that Apple would roll out the iPhone at a special September 9 event most certainly to be held at its Cupertino, Ca. Headquarters. The new iPhone specs are not known, but it looks like the popular smartphone will get a boost in screen size comparable to its chief competitor Samsung’s phones. Hypebeat has more on the iWatch announcement.

From Hypebeast:

The iWatch may be arriving sooner than anyone expected. With the announcement of the upcoming iPhone 6 introduction at Apple’s September 9 iPhone event, reports have been made that the tech giant will also unveil its iWatch, a wearable version of the latest smart technology. First reported to be arriving later in October, the launching of the iWatch coinciding with the arrival of the iPhone 6 signifies a bold move on Apple’s part as it transitions to a new generation of tech devices. The iWatch will most certainly be met with intrigue during its introduction, as only time will tell if the wearable technology will be a success or a disappointment.

Wearable technology has been slow to catch on with the public, as Samsung’s Galaxy Gear and other companies are still fine-tuning the concept. Apple, however, has a knack for getting the public fervor around its gadgets so it’s possible that the iWatch could help the smartwatch industry turn the corner.

The Struggle Files: Guy Drops iPhone 6 Live On TV [VIDEO]

If you were lucky enough to score an iPhone 6 before the drought, chances are you’ll cherish it for the first couple of weeks. Months, even.

That was the case for a “bloke” by the name of Jack Cooksey in Perth, Australia who was the first to emerge from their store with Apple’s newest device of covet. While being interviewed by the local news crew, Jack showed the first signs of struggle when he had difficulty separating the iPhone’s coffin-like case.

And then…it happened. His standard iPhone 6 was introduced to the pavement in a matter of seconds. Almost immediately, cameras began to flash and onlookers cringed in agony. Someone even blurted out “sh*t!” during the live segment.

Luckily, no damage was done to the exterior, making Apple’s new product appear to pass a standard test of humanity. Jack still needs to invest in the case, though.

Apple Wins: iPhone 6 Sales Top 10 Million In 1st Weekend

$

So yeah, Apple just won. The company sold over 10 million of its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus models since Friday (Sept. 19).

If the world were to find out that Samsung execs are collectively weeping in a corner somewhere, no one would blame them. The sales are even better considering that the phone hasn’t even reached it’s full level of expansion yet. For now you can only get it in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK. It expands to 20 other countries this week, and a total of 115 by year’s end.

“Sales for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus exceeded our expectations for the launch weekend, and we couldn’t be happier,”  Apple CEO Tim Cook announced Monday (Sept. 22). “We would like to thank all of our customers for making this our best launch ever, shattering all previous sell-through records by a large margin. While our team managed the manufacturing ramp better than ever before, we could have sold many more iPhones with greater supply and we are working hard to fill orders as quickly as possible.”

Anyone who preordered the iPhone 6 of iPhone 6 plus, don’t panic if it hasn’t come in the mail yet. It should be there by October.

Tech Test: Is Your Brand New iPhone 6 Bent? [Photos]

$

iPhone 6 Plus customers are complaining that the ultra thin device is bending in their back pockets. Not a huge deal, since iPhone 5s, and other phones have been known to be flexible but it’s probably an inconvenience.

Reports Mac Rumors:

As highlighted in a few reports shared in the MacRumors forums, a small but growing number of iPhone 6 Plus owners have reportedly bent their phones after carrying the devices in their pockets just days after launch. In one instance, a new iPhone 6 Plus was bent during a day of dancing, dining, and driving to a wedding:

“Yesterday, I left at 10am with the iPhone in my left FRONT pocket of my suit pants. I drove 4 hours to a wedding, which also involved a lot of sitting during dinner etc but also 2-3 hours of dancing. I left at 2am and went to bed, driving home 4 hours back.

So in total, the 6 Plus was about 18 hours in my pocket while sitting mostly.

As I lay it on the coffee table and sat down on the couch to relax from the drive (yes, sitting again ), I saw the reflection of the window in the iPhones slightly distorted.”

It sucks to buy a brand new phone and have it end up  “slightly distorted” right? Well there’s good news. One solution to this problem would be to take the damn phone out before sitting down, but that could get annoying. Especially if you’re on a bus or train.

Another way to remedy iPhone issues is to invest in a pair of vintage wide-leg jeans:

The Diss: Samsung Shows The Galaxy Note 4 Won’t Bend Like The iPhone 6 [VIDEO]

The iPhone 6 has come under much scrutiny for their malleability when it comes to bending their frame. Apple rival Samsung seized the opportunity to go in for the kill as the October 14 of their Galaxy Note 4 is right around the corner.

Durability hasn’t been a selling point for Samsung up until this point, but the international attention the iPhone 6’s fragile frame has endured has been hard to ignore. Earlier this week, a pair of English teens decided to push that theory to the test in an effort to make Apple look bad by giving them a strength test–in the Apple store. Unlike professionally done demonstrations where exact science is applied, “Danny and Kylie” risked being charged with various crimes to prove their point. And while they eventually apologized and owned up to being in the wrong, they were successful in their vandalism quest.

Now, Samsung has taken upon themselves to put the Galaxy Note 4 through a simulated real world bend test using skinny jeans and mathematically calculated pressure points.

The Verge does point out that the test is still somewhat biased, however the Galaxy Note 4 already appears to have more lean muscle than its competition, thanks its sturdy metal frame.

Watch the video for yourself as the smartphone wars continue to heat up.

Ever thought about buying a house, but decided to splurge on an iPhone 6 or iPad instead? Well, there’s good news for any potential buyers looking to purchase in the Detroit area. A man in the Motor City is willing to trade a house for an Apple product that costs far less, and might bend in half….depending.

Reports TIME:

A Detroit man who is having trouble selling his home is reportedly willing to trade it in for an iPhone 6 or a 32GB iPad, according to his realtor, FOX 2 reports.

“It’s a real listing,” realtor Larry Else tells FOX 2, as the theme to The Price Is Right plays in the background. “It sounds like he wants the premium version [iPhone 6 Plus], but I’m sure that he’s willing to negotiate.”

If prospective homeowners don’t have an iPhone 6, they can pay $3,000 for the three-bedroom, one-and-a-half bath — down from $5,000 when it was listed for sale in June, according to Zillow.com. The investigative news website Motor City Muckraker reports Wayne County records show the owner still owes more than $6,000 in property taxes.

The home was originally purchased site unseen by an Austrian man for $40,000

Emojis changed the way people converse via text message and social media. Often used in place of words as a means of expressing every emotion, the game becomes inclusive with the arrival of the promised multicultural emojis.

Apple’s iOS 8.3 was made available today, but few seemed to care about the bug fixes and design tweaks. The list of 300 racially diverse emojis became the focal point of web discussions. But it’s impossible to please everyone, as some iPhone users noted omissions as they saw fit.

With Fetty Wap, The Game, and more launching a line of emojis, it was only a matter a time before another rapper jumped on the tech craze. Future is the latest to release his very own personalized emoticons for Apple’s iPhone.

The key to a good emoji is structuring the digital stickers to your personality/persona. Future’s emoji line feels pretty personal with nods to his Atlanta roots, various hats and sneakers, strippers (?) making out, and the infamous Gucci flip-flops.

He also threw in some emojis of jewerly, cars, champagne, dirty Sprite, the Haitian and American flags, and more drugs.

Apple fanatics brace yourselves, the iPhone 8 is coming and if you want it, you better start saving your coins.

The Wall Street Journal dropped the news of Apple holding a product launch event on Sept. 12, and Tim Cook will be unveiling three iPhones and the 8th installment will be one of them.

The iPhone 8 will reportedly look drastically different from its predecessors, most noticeably it will be ditiching the usual home button, the ‘Touch ID’ completely and its vertically aligned dual rear camera.

Other confirmed specs for the iPhone 8:

  1. 5.8 inch OLED screen with the world’s highest screen-to-body ratio.
  2. The front camera will support 3D scanning and advanced facial recognition.
  3. Enhanced vertically aligned dual rear camera.
  4. Lightning port with USB-C power delivery embedded for speed charging.

Now how much will this cost you?

The iPhone 8 will not only boast some impressive new features but will also have an impressive price. The entry-level 64GB iPhone 8 will start at $999, $350 more than the previous entry-level version. BUT if you can’t fathom spending that much, Apple will also be unveiling an iPhone 7S and 7S plus as well.

According to rumors, pre-orders will open up for the iPhone 8 on Friday, September 15, leading up the worldwide launch on Friday, Spetember 22.

Will you guys be breaking bank for the iPhone 8? Or will you just be settling for an iPhone 7S?
